Living the Gospel: A Lenten Journey
Join Rev. Laurie for reflection and prayer on Jesus’ earthly ministry and leave each meeting having discerned one small action you will take over the course of the week to respond to your own call to discipleship. Then, come back to share the experience.
Please put the annual Italian Dinner Night on your calendar for Saturday, March 26th with seatings at 5pm & 7pm in the Parish Hall.
Advance tickets are: $15 for adults $7 for children & kids under 4 eat free. Debbie and Jim are cooking so the dinner will, as always, be amazing. And here’s the best news: all proceeds go to Light on Main! To make this night a success please let me know whether you will be able to join us and (hopefully) how many people you will bring with you. The most successful advertising we have is you!
Is there someone who needs a bit of extra prayer during this Holiday Season? If so, please stop by 506 Main Street. Write the person’s name on the Prayer Angel and say your prayers either alone or with a staff member. Place your angel on our Christmas Prayer Tree and they will be remembered all through this blessed season.
The Angel Prayer Tree will be available December 1st through the 24th.
A year has passed since we opened Light On Main (LOM), St. John’s Storefront Mission to the Community of Boonton. In that time we’ve been reaching out to our neighbors and getting to know and love them. We’ve done so by hosting a wide range of FREE events including; weekly Book Club, Job Coaching/Resume Writing series, weekly Zen Meditation Classes, weekly Alternative Worship Services, Pet Adoption Drives (in conjunction with 11th Hour Rescue), Art Classes, Knitting Classes, Morning Prayer, weekly Bible Studies, Family Fun/Movie Nights, Holiday Toy Drives, Food Pantry Drives, the recent opening of our LOM Community Bookstore, and perhaps our greatest service…simply being there to listen.
All that said, we hope you can join us in celebrating the 1st Anniversary of LOM this Saturday, October 2nd (see attached flyer for details). Your ticket purchase will help to fund all the wonderful programming listed above! All while enjoying a wonderful Buffet of delicious comfort food to help welcome in the Fall and and maybe you’ll go home with a deal on one of our Silent Auction items!
Sunday, September 26th is the official grand opening of the Bookstore at Light On Main. It is the great pleasure of the congregation of St. John’s Church of Boonton to offer a wide selection of used books to complement the welcoming atmosphere, friendly conversation, cup of coffee, and free cyber cafe and open Wi-Fi.
Over the the past year we’ve been offering a wide variety of events at Light On Main. We’ve had movies, family fun nights with board games, Zendo meditation courses, a weekly book club, art classes, and morning prayer. As varied as these activities are, our second year will be even better. See our full calendar at StJohnsBoonton.com.
So come by, check your email at our free internet cafe or Wi-Fi, pick up a new book to enjoy as the fall season lengthens into winter, have a cup of coffee, and make some new friends!
